Hot Dog Bun Pudding is a delicious, fast and easy recipe. It is ideal to make ahead and take to a party or social gathering or cook-out. Simple ingredients, simple instructions.
Once a year I host a group of ladies in my home to play Bunko. We have been playing together since 2003 (I think). We have so much fun just getting together. We eat dinner or supper if you are in the south, then we play, and then we have dessert and award the winners.
I recently fixed this “Hot Dog Bun Pudding” for dessert. Several of the gals requested a copy of the recipe.
I was at a Palette Club meeting and one of the members brought this for our brunch. She knew how yummy it is so before she came to the meeting she wrote out the recipe for each one of us. I am so glad that she decided to share this with us. I was surprised when she told us that the main ingredient was hot dog buns.
It is super fast and easy. And it is delicious.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
While it is heating you can melt the butter in the oven in a 9″x13″ pan or melt it in the microwave.
Tear the buns into small chunks and put into the melted butter. Mix all the wet ingredients and a pinch of salt.
Pour over the torn bun pieces. The milk, eggs, and sugar create a creamy custard for this recipe.
Sprinkle with cinnamon (to taste) and pecans.
Bake at 350 degrees 30-45 minutes until it’s brown and crusty.
Pour the caramel ice cream topping covering the top.
Let it cool.
Cut into serving size pieces. This piece is on one of my vintage Fiesta plates.
This is also delicious with a scoop of ice cream but be ready for sugar overload.
Please feel free to share this recipe.
’til next time,
Nathalie
