We had been planning our weekend getaway to Fredericksburg, TX for months and were looking forward to having this time to reconnect and recharge. It was wonderful to take a few days off and have a 2-night weekend with precious, godly girlfriends. Shopping was on our minds.
Junkin’, antique hunting, art galleries, boutiques, good food, and heartfelt fellowship, those are the ingredients for a fun, summertime road trip with my Godly Girlfriends.
12 of us gals packed up and loaded into vans, SUV’s and pick-ups. Because our plan was to shop til we dropped, we wanted to be sure we had plenty of room to bring back our treasures.
After we unloaded, we headed out to Alamo Springs Cafe, that is just outside of Fredericksburg, to enjoy “the Best Burgers in Texas“.
There were 3 houses we reserved at this adorable bed and breakfast. Actually, it was just bed. We were on our own for breakfast.
We spent 2 nights at Aunt Violet’s Bed & Breakfast.
Saturday morning we sat got up early so we could grab breakfast just down the street and then head out to Trade Days.
Fredericksburg, TX is home to the Trade Days Market. We hurried to get there as soon as the doors opened. Trust me when I say that there is something for everyone and every taste at Trade Days.
I had my list of what I was “huntin'” for.
-
Glass salt shakers to use as models for a painting.
-
Rusty stuff for Rust Dyeing Silk
-
Something to complete the decor in our bedroom
My girlfriends had their lists, too. So we enjoyed shopping for each other and hunting for what was on their lists.
Salt Shakers – Found!!!
Here is the painting I did. The technique is poured watercolor.

Bedroom Wall Treasures – Found!!!
I already had the three pieces on the right. My friend Jackie painted and distressed the frame but it was empty and needed something. Don’t you just absolutely love the soft turquoise against the light gray walls?
It got hot fast so we finished loading our treasures and went to the downtown area of Fredericksburg. Art galleries were on my list of special places to shop or just stop by and be intimidated or be inspired, challenged, and encouraged. It’s all a matter of perspective.
The Good Art Company was top on my list of Fredericksburg art galleries.
What a great day! We ate, we laughed, we ate, we shopped, we ate, we made art, and we ate, again!!!
Did I say, “we made art”? It just so happened that I brought along a few art supplies, just in case. I showed the Girlfriends how to make mixed media art using sponges, stencils, texture tools, and glue sticks. It was good messy fun. We painted in our pajamas!!!
Speaking of making art – the next morning, Sunday morning, Renee was up early making art in the B and B guest book. She doodled a blessing for the next guests that would stay at Aunt Violet’s. We grabbed our coffee and headed to the patio. Well, Janell didn’t. She doesn’t drink coffee but that’s another story altogether.
For some reason, it seemed like the Sunday morning coffee just tasted better as we sat outside on the patio.
It was a beautiful morning.
And then we had church on the back porch.
Because that’s what Godly Girlfriends do.
There are times when you just need to get away either by yourself or with just a few close friends. Find a special place or make a place special. Do what you love or try something new. Take care of yourself so that you can also take care of the ones you need to take care of.
I leave you with the blessing that Renee doodled in the guestbook.
“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.” Numbers 6:24-26 (ESV)
’til next time,
Nathalie
